Mission
The mission of Temple Beth Am of Northern Westchester is to serve as a center for the expression of Jewish life in all its richness.
As a people bound to both our history spanning thousands of years, as well as our strong faith, we strive to
maintain balance and tolerance by embracing our Jewish identity, our relationship to God and our secular heritage.
As a spiritual and welcoming place for the practice of Judaism in its diverse forms, we seek to create a community
where the practice of Reform Judaism enriches and uplifts our lives with understanding, warmth, friendship and meaning.
We affirm our Judaism by embracing and understanding our Jewish heritage,
providing the opportunity for worship, fostering lifelong learning of Torah and other Jewish texts,
and stimulating and broadening our connections with the Jewish community and the Jewish people throughout the world.
We encourage the pursuit of social justice as we continue to strive towards Tikkun Olam, repairing of the world, through
deeds of righteousness and acts of loving-kindness. We act upon our Jewish values, inspiring engagement in social action and social advocacy.
Diversity is the source of our strength. We therefore foster and encourage the participation of
everyone who wishes to associate with Judaism regardless of background or level of commitment.
In order to advance the cause of Liberal Judaism in America and through the world,
this congregation shall affiliate itself with the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.
Statement of Values
At Temple Beth Am, everything we do we build together from a shared set of values.
We believe that nothing is more important in the life of a Reform Jewish community than the relationships we build
and the welcome we give to one another.
We believe in equality, diversity, and inclusion as religious principles.
We include everyone equally irrespective of gender, ability, race, age, sexual orientation, religious background, or economic status.
We believe that Judaism is best when it is shared with a diverse group of people. Ours is an accessible, mature Judaism that
nurtures and challenges our young people; both a Judaism for families and one that responds to the individual.
Temple Beth Am is built on a foundation of mutual caring in which we accompany one another through our life journeys
as we share our joys and sorrows.
We believe that children learn, grow and thrive when their spiritual, emotional and intellectual needs are fulfilled
in a nurturing and inspiring Jewish community.
We are committed to the sacred task of creating an engaging Judaism through innovation. We are always learning from each other.
We believe in a Judaism that is utterly entwined with the world around us, both within the Jewish people and our wider community.
We believe that worship and Jewish learning are central to a meaningful Jewish life. We aim to create opportunities
for worship and studythat are intellectually rich, grounded in Jewish tradition and inspiring for all.
Our very musical community adds joyous, rich textures to our experience of Judaism.
We work as a respectful, collaborative partnership of leaders and members, working together
for the good of our community and the individuals within it.
Together we create a unique, welcoming community.
