I write note this in the wake of the brutality and anti-Semitism that was unleashed on the synagogue in Pittsburgh yesterday morning. While this heinous act can cause us to feel fear, we must be strong and vigilant. We must be aware, be proactive, and we must stand strong against such hatred.
To help with a feeling of safety and security, we wanted to let you know that the Yorktown Police Department will have additional patrols during school and Synagogue events for the near future. During school hours, as usual, we will have the doors to the building completely locked. Only known individuals will be able to enter. Additionally, you should know that we have cameras capturing footage around the entire building at all times.
This morning at 9 A.M., I will have “Time with Rabbi” for any of you who wish to talk and process what has happened. It is times like these when we need community.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me or anyone in the leadership of the Temple. Moses urged, “Chazak v’ematz” we must be strong and be vigilant. We need to take his words into our hearts, so that we can stand strong with our brothers and sisters in Pittsburgh as well as stand up in the face of hatred and anti-Semitism.
